How to copy a YouTube link with a timestamp on a computer

Share → Start at

Pause the video at the moment you want, click Share under the player, and tick “Start at”. The time is filled in from where you paused; change it if needed and copy the link.

Right-click the player

Right-click on the video itself and choose “Copy video URL at current time”. The link with the timestamp is copied straight to your clipboard.

Edit the link by hand

Add ?t=90 to a youtu.be link, or &t=90s to a watch link, then send it. This is the same thing the tool above does for you.

How to share a YouTube video at a specific time on mobile

The YouTube app on iPhone and Android does not always offer a “Start at” option in its share sheet, so the quickest method on a phone is to share the link and add the time yourself.

  1. In the YouTube app, tap Share, then Copy link.
  2. Open this page in your phone browser and paste the link into the box above.
  3. Type the time you want the video to start at and press the button.
  4. Copy the new link and paste it into WhatsApp, Messages, email or wherever you are sending it.

How to link a timestamp in a YouTube comment

In a comment you do not need a link at all. Type the time, for example 4:32, and YouTube turns it into a clickable timestamp that jumps the video to that moment. The same works in your own video descriptions, which is how chapters are made.

Start and end times

Ordinary watch and youtu.be links only support a start time. If you embed a video on a web page, the embed URL accepts both start and end in seconds, for example https://www.youtube.com/embed/VIDEO_ID?start=30&end=75. To share a short excerpt with others on YouTube itself, the Clip feature (where the channel allows it) is the other option.

Find the exact moment with the transcript

If you remember what was said but not when, open the video’s transcript, search for the phrase, and read off the timestamp on that line. Then paste the time here to build the link.

Frequently asked questions

How do I send a YouTube link with a timestamp?

Paste the video link and the time into the tool above, copy the result and send it. Or on a computer, pause the video, click Share, tick “Start at” and copy the link.

How do I add a timestamp to a YouTube link?

Add ?t= followed by the number of seconds to a youtu.be link (youtu.be/ID?t=83), or &t=83s to a watch link. You can also write the time as 1m23s.

How do I copy a YouTube link with a timestamp on iPhone or Android?

Copy the normal link from the app’s Share menu, paste it into this page in your phone browser with the time you want, and copy the generated link.

Why is my YouTube timestamp link not working?

Check that the t value is in seconds or in the 1m30s style, that you used ? or & correctly, and that the time is shorter than the video. Some apps also remember where you stopped watching, which can override the start time.

Can a YouTube link have a start and an end time?

Regular links only take a start time. Embedded players accept start and end parameters in seconds.

How do I link a timestamp in a YouTube comment?

Type the time, such as 2:45, in the comment. YouTube makes it clickable automatically.

Does a timestamp link work for Shorts?

Shorts are designed to play from the beginning, so a start time is often ignored. Timestamp links are best used with regular videos.
