How to copy a YouTube transcript on iPhone
On iPhone and iPad, follow the steps above in Safari. After Copy transcript, the text is on your clipboard and can be pasted into Notes, Pages, Google Docs, Messages or ChatGPT. Turn timestamps off first if you want plain paragraphs.
How to copy a YouTube transcript on Android
On Android it works the same in Chrome, Samsung Internet or Firefox. Share the video from the YouTube app, copy the link, paste it here and tap Copy transcript. Downloads such as TXT or PDF are saved to your phone’s Downloads folder.
How to view the transcript in the YouTube mobile app
In the YouTube app, tap the video’s title to open the description, scroll down and tap “Show transcript” if it is there. The transcript plays along with the video, but you cannot select or copy the text, it cannot be searched, and the option is missing on many videos and on Shorts.
Pasting the link here fills those gaps: the full text, a search box, one-tap copy and downloads.
Search a YouTube transcript on mobile
Type into the transcript search box to narrow the list to the lines that mention a word, then tap a line to jump the embedded video to that moment. It is the quickest way to find one point in a long video on a small screen.
