Copy YouTube Transcript

Copy a YouTube transcript in one click instead of selecting it line by line. Turn timestamps off for clean text, or copy only the lines that match a search.

  • Copy the whole transcript
  • With or without timestamps
  • Works on any device

How to copy a transcript from YouTube

  1. Copy the video link from the address bar or the Share button.
  2. Paste it into the box above and press Get Transcript to Copy.
  3. Turn the Timestamps toggle off if you want plain text without times.
  4. Press Copy transcript. The entire transcript is now on your clipboard.
  5. Paste it wherever you need it: Word, Google Docs, Notion, an email or ChatGPT.

Why copying from YouTube’s own transcript panel is a pain

YouTube’s “Show transcript” panel scrolls inside a small box, so selecting the whole thing means dragging slowly to the bottom, and the result usually arrives with every timestamp on its own line. On the YouTube app there is no way to select the text at all.

Here the whole transcript is one button away, and you choose whether the timestamps come with it.

How to copy a YouTube transcript without timestamps

Switch the Timestamps toggle off before you copy. The lines are joined into readable text you can paste straight into a document. If you change your mind, switch it back on and copy again, which gives you each line with its time in front.

Prefer a file? Download the transcript as TXT with timestamps off for the same clean text.

Copy only part of the transcript

Type a word into the transcript search and the list narrows to the matching lines. Copy visible copies just those lines. You can also edit a line in place or remove lines, such as a sponsor read or an intro, before you copy.

Copy a YouTube transcript on iPhone, Android or iPad

In the YouTube app, tap Share, then Copy link. Open this page in Safari or Chrome, paste the link and press the button. Copy transcript works on phones and tablets exactly as it does on a computer, so you can paste the text into Notes, Google Docs or any app.

How to copy a YouTube transcript into Word

Copy the transcript and paste it into a blank Word document, or skip the clipboard and use the Word download to get a .doc file directly. Both keep the text editable.
