YouTube to Notion
To get a YouTube transcript into Notion, either import the file or paste the text. To import, open a Notion page, click the menu, choose Import, then Text & Markdown, and pick the .md file. To paste, press Copy transcript here and paste into any Notion page.
To keep the video itself on the same page, paste the YouTube link into Notion and choose Embed (or type /video). You get the player and the transcript side by side.
YouTube transcripts in Obsidian
Markdown is Obsidian’s native format, so the downloaded file works as a note immediately. Move it into your vault folder, or copy the transcript and paste it into a new note. With timestamps on, each line keeps the moment it was said, which is handy when you want to link back to the video.
Pasting into Google Docs
Google Docs does not import .md files by default, so the simplest route is Copy transcript, then paste. If you want a file you can upload to Drive and open as a Doc, use the Word download instead.
Why Markdown is a good format for transcripts
- It is plain text, so it opens in any editor and stays small.
- It works with Notion, Obsidian, Logseq, Bear, GitHub and static site generators.
- It is easy to search, version and paste into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini.
- You can add your own headings and bullet points around the transcript as notes.
